Altered States of America (2003, Relapse) es uno de los hitos del grindcore del siglo XXI y un referente de lo que se llamó «cybergrind». Agoraphobic Nosebleed, proyecto liderado por Scott Hull (también de Pig Destroyer), llevó al extremo su fórmula de caja de ritmos programada a velocidades inhumanas, guitarras abrasivas y voces desgarradas. El disco reúne 100 canciones en unos veinte minutos, muchas de apenas unos segundos, en una provocación a la idea misma de «canción». En un momento en que el grind buscaba nuevas vías, mostró que la electrónica y el ruido podían integrarse en el género sin suavizarlo. Su radicalidad influyó en bandas posteriores de grind digital y en la escena más extrema del underground.
